Merge to Email is available only if Outlook is set as your Default email program. The macOS does set the default, but sets it to its own email program:-) That has to be done by changing the General Preferences in Apple's Mail.app to specify Outlook as the default. It's best to Quit Word before doing so. In Word, please check the Match field and make sure the E-mail Address is matched properly in Mail Merge: In Outlook, click File Options Advanced. Make sure the 'Send immediately when connected' option is checked under Send and receive. Additionally, please double-click the messages which are stuck in Outbox, click Send to send them again.

I had this same issue and somehow came upon a thread in this forum that read: 'Unable to Mail an Office Document, option to email is greyed out' Word For Mac Mailmerge Mail Grayed Out


and just as Jim Gordon said in this post, somehow (i must have clicked yes to something) my default mail client got switched to my gmail account.


I switched it back (open Mail, then preferences, under the 'general' tab, top of the list is 'default email reader')

then i closed excel, ppt and word.
